Spring

With all the lakes, ponds and streams spring time in Pittsburg means great fishing. Your choice of localities is without limit. Spring is also the start of moose watching in the North Country. The majestic animals are moving from their wintering yards to seek food in the lower elevations. Route 3 to the Canadian border is a great area to see these animals. Bring your camera. Another popular activity is hunting for moose antlers; the most productive time is in the spring when most of the snow has melted. Finding them requires keen eyes, woodsmanship and a passion for the outdoors. Spring turkey hunting in Pittsburg? Yes, for the first time in a billion years New Hampshire's most northern town will have a spring gobbler hunt. Please check the laws by following this link: www.wildlife.state.nh.us/

What else is there to do in the spring? Some days it is not a bad idea just to relax, read a book, make popcorn or take a nap.

The Summers

The summers in Pittsburg are wonderful. Go bird watching, canoe or kayak the Connecticut lakes and mountain ponds. Fish the cold water streams and lake inlets. Take a bike ride on the miles of well maintained logging roads, hike the many mountain trails, hike to Magalloway Mtn. for breathtaking views of Vermont, Maine and Canada. Go to Garfield Falls for a picnic; look for moose, go to big brook bog at dawn to hear the loons and the slashing sounds of feeding moose. Pick wild blueberries, cook your fresh fish on the grill, relax and enjoy the sunsets.

The Fall

Fall starts early in the north county. Early fall is a wonderful time for viewing the foliage, bike riding, hiking, fishing, taking a canoe trip to Norton Pool & Moose Pasture natural areas. It is a great time of the year for viewing all kinds of wildlife.

By mid October hunting is at its best. Pittsburg's vast areas of Timberland offer to the hunter more favorable conditions than can be found anywhere else in New Hampshire. There are hundreds of square miles of unspoiled forest. The land consists of mountains, rolling hills, beaver ponds, clear cuts and conifer swamps. This makes ideal cover for game of every description. You can easily find deer, moose, bear, fox, rabbit and partridge. All species are abundant in almost all areas.
